The road as water storage

Traffic areas are no longer merely sealed – they become part of active water management. Traffic flows above, while heavy rain is retained, stored or infiltrated below.

Section: lorry traffic in a thunderstorm above a JUMBO BLOCK installation

Rethought

Load capacity and retention in one system

JUMBO BLOCK combines stormwater retention, load capacity and urban land use. The composite action of modules rotated by 90° safely carries heavy traffic loads and creates a durable foundation for municipal roads, logistics areas and transport corridors.

Flooded roads, undermined carriageways and overloaded sewers cause high follow-up costs. JUMBO BLOCK reduces hydraulic peaks right where the water arises: beneath the road itself.

Infrastructure for generations

Life cycle instead of short-term fix

Designed for 80 to 120 years, the installation and the pavement above remain in place where short-lived systems would have to be removed and replaced at great expense. This reduces later civil works, material and disposal effort and traffic disruption – improving the economics of public investment.

Digitally observable

No black box underground

The JUMBO BLOCK Dashboard makes the retention installation measurable and verifiable. Sensors deliver water levels, fill ratios, system states and events; a chained, IOTA-anchored audit trail makes the data traceable – for operators, auditors and supervisory authorities.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What traffic loads does JUMBO BLOCK carry beneath roads?

The system is designed for traffic loads to EN 1991-2, load model LM1. Structural verification is carried out per project for the specific pavement build-up.

When can the road be used after installation?

Because the modules are delivered as precast elements, there is no on-site curing. The area can be used once the pavement has been built.

Does JUMBO BLOCK also protect the pavement?

Yes. Controlled water routing, retention and pressure relief reduce undermining, erosion and material fatigue in the road body.
